Abstract

The article analyzes tolerance within the human daily life. It was established that the concept of "tolerance" is quite multifaceted, since it is motivated by the social life, the practice of communication of people with different values. The research has revealed that in everyday life tolerance fulfills the following basic functions: humanitarian, identification, socio-adaptive. It was determined that the condition and the indispensable component of tolerance are represented by the peaceful coexistence of people with different histories, cultures and identities. In everyday life, tolerance develops as a culture of being in the complex world of values and established beliefs of participants in any dialogue. The work argues that tolerance cannot be infinite; it is actually limited because there is always something objectively intolerant in life. Moving beyond tolerance generates such antipodes as intolerance and hypertolerance. Tolerance is applied not in every situation, but only in those related to the presence of antagonism in interpersonal relationships. It is emphasized that the main function of tolerance can be understood as the direction of development of a potentially conflict situation towards a constructive solution. It was established that the new theory of tolerance needed by modern society should be based on the pluralism of paradigms.
