Identity Citizens and Image of the City (Case – Zaporozhye)

The aim of the article is a discussion on the theoretical and empirical levels of problems associated with the symbolic value for the city's residents, which serves as the city identification support. The collective sense of the city involves a measure of the relationship to him as a house as a metaphor and as the nearest environment friendly real home. The image of the house bears the load of the sensual and functional. Sensual is responsible for the perception of the city as a family, friends. The functional component involves the relationship to the city as a useful, necessary for the realization of life plans, as a social space, populated by people with their numerous connections, objects, relations, resources to fulfill its mission town. To investigate the relationship to the city of its residents had taken a poll of citizens. According to a representative sample of the adult population surveyed about 700 people. The questionnaire contained the question «What can be proud of our city?» According to respondents, in the first place is industry. In second place in the list of objects of pride is history. In third place marked «memorials». City must have distinctive features; objects have to be proud, to be something that can serve as a basis for identifying with the city. Identification is possible with a positive perception of the city.
