One of the key aspects of city planning has to be a creation of people’s friendly urban space. Lutsk administration and urban planners don’t take into account real needs of people while developing transport routes, constructing roads and planning of the streets. The main factor of the problems is the absence of scientific base and logical chain: survey – forecasting of consequences – planning etc. The source of spatial danger in Lutsk is architectural and spatial chaos («disorder» in the landscape, building offices of the historical part of the city, the offensive urban space that devoid of aesthetic taste, etc.). So there was an urgent need for research within the audit of security of area around of the dormitory of the Lutsk Pedagogical College that was conducted by the Gender Education Center in order to identify the most dangerous situations for students on their way to the dormitory. The survey was conducted among students of the Lutsk Pedagogical College (222 respondents, representing 45% of those living in the hostel by gender and age (15–22)). The results of our research show the need of safe urban space around the dormitory of Lutsk Pedagogical College and urban space in general. It is becoming increasingly clear that urban development is largely determined by the level of activity of its inhabitants, as well as the strict control of city administration by NGOs and the media. This scientific exploration can be a basis for further studying of city security problem and sociological measuring of urban space development.
