Equal Opportunities for Women and Men versus the Crisis of Masculinity (Ukrainian Specificity)

The article examines the importance of the gender factor in Ukraine’s war against the Russian aggressor and the role of gender transformations in modern Ukrainian society, their impact on reforms in the Armed Forces. The concepts of «crisis of masculinity» and «crisis of femininity» are analyzed in accordance with the military realities of the present time – the unprovoked armed aggression of Putin’s Kremlin neo-empire against sovereign Ukraine. Attention is focused on the stereotypes of the mass consciousness regarding gender roles in modern Ukrainian society and research is conducted on the processes of genderization that take place in the Ukrainian social space, primarily in the Armed Forces. It is proven that the choice of the European path of development and Ukraine’s desire to join NATO are a prerequisite for carrying out serious gender transformations in Ukrainian society, aimed at equalizing social, career, and status opportunities for women and men. It is noted that this process was and continues to be most effective in the Ukrainian army. About 38,000 women soldiers are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces today. About 7,000 of them are fighting at «zero».
As a result of the conducted gender analysis of real processes related to military actions against rashists on the territory of Ukraine, it is concluded that neither the crisis of masculinity nor the crisis of femininity are the main indicators of its viability and stability in Ukrainian society. On the contrary, positive gender transformations are taking place, which will ensure effective interaction between women and men and are a real basis for the establishment of human rights and parity (gender) democracy in Ukraine. Attention is drawn to the need to overcome gender stereotypes of the mass consciousness for a more effective introduction of the principles of the existence of civilized societies into the life activities of the Ukrainian community.
