Family and Career in the Assessments of Ukrainian Studentship: the Postmodernization of Value Field (on Case of Kharkiv)

The article is dedicated to studying the value orientations of contemporary Ukrainian studentship, in particular, the student youths’ views on family and career. Basing on the results of empirical data, the authors provide comparative research strategy due to analyzing peculiarities of family values and family practices assessments of Kharkiv students as representatives of contemporary Ukrainian metropolis and the whole empirical array data. It is necessary to highlight that the aspiration to the egalitarian (contemporary) model of the family, characterized by a blurry of family roles division and postmodernization students’ family values are typical for contemporary Ukrainian studentship. The value postmodernization demonstrates students’ perception of the family not only as a social surrounding for childbirth, but also as a sphere of self-realization and improvement of the life quality level. Among peculiarities of Kharkiv studentship’ value field the authors discern liberalization, individualization, as well as the increased level of social subjectiveness as a value-practical phenomenon. The research indicates a greater commitment of metropolis studentship to the value orientations, which on the value axis of «traditional-postmodern» are closer to the latter. The authors propose to analyze the value axis «family and career» as two inseparable components of successful self-realization of the individual than as mutually exclusive trajectories of the life path.
